Video: 41 dead as Russian plane lands in flames at Moscow airport

At least 41 people have been confirmed dead in a Russian commercial plane crash in Moscow on Sunday, May 5, 2019.

The Aeroflot which was carrying 78 people and 5 crew members reportedly jet tried to make an emergency landing and burst into flames after touching down. The hard landing may have ignited the fire, according to reports.

An eyewitness, Boris Kuznetsov, who works as a correspondent for Russian news site, said:

“We were sitting really close to the plane, which was completely on fire. The flames were huge. It was very difficult for the emergency services to tackle the blaze.”

Terrifying footage shows the moment the Sukhoi Superjet burst into flames after crash-landing. Some passengers leaped onto inflatable slides and stumbled away from the raging flames as soon as the plane stopped. Some were seen fleeing with their luggage.

Russia’s largest airline, Aeroflot, said in a statement that Flight SU1492 was heading to Murmansk when it was forced to return to Moscow because of a technical issue. It is still unknown what the technical issues were at the time of this report.

Russian president, Vladimir Putin has offered condolences to the victims’ families, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov, said. A criminal investigation into the cause of the crash has been launched.
