The beginning of the school year can be overwhelming for anyone, especially for the communities of El Paso, Dayton, Ohio, and Gilroy, California that were devastated by recent mass shootings that left many people dead.

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, popularly called Lady Gaga, shared a heartfelt note following the recent shootings. In the note, she addressed the victims, their families, and the country at large.

“The Star is Born” actress urged the U.S. to take action on these tragedies, but also to be “there for each other and ourselves.”

In a Facebook post, she announced that her foundation, Born This Way Foundation, has partnered with the charity to fund classroom projects in the communities of Dayton, El Paso, and Gilroy affected by the recent mass shootings.

Around 18,000 students benefited from Gaga’s goodwill. Funds donated to these classroom projects provided supplies like iPads, books, and engineering kits.

The ‘Born This Way’ singer highlighted the importance of discussing ones mental health and reaching put for help.

She urged those who are struggling to tell someone they trust and reminded people to look out for their loved ones’ mental health:

“If you see a loved one struggling, please be brave and reach out, remind them it’s ok to not be ok, and listen to them. We cannot turn away from ourselves. We cannot turn away from our loved ones. We need each other. Don’t turn away.”
