A woman has filed a $2 million lawsuit against a North Carolina Pastor she accused of urinating on her while she was sleeping during flight.

Daniel Chalmers, a pastor at Catch The Fire Raleigh-Durham church, was accused of peeing on the female flight passenger on a Detroit-bound flight from Las Vegas on October 12.

Alicia Beverly, 28, said she “woke up feeling something warm on her body and when she looked up to her right, she observed Mr. Chalmers standing next to her shaking his exposed penis.” according to the complaint. She said that she then noticed that Mr. Chalmers urinated on her and she started screaming.

When Police asked the suspect whose breath smelled alcohol, about what happened, “I peed on her,” Chalmers allegedly replied, according to the report. “I thought I was going to the bathroom,” he reportedly said.

Chalmers’ blood-alcohol content was .017 upon testing, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

The victim, Alicia Beverly has now hired an attorney Geoffrey Fieger, who filed a $2 million lawsuit against Chalmers.

Chalmers was arrested October 27, according to reports. He resigned from his role on Friday October 30.

He “expressed grief and horror” to his fellow pastors at his Raleigh-Durham church before abruptly resigning Friday, according to Catch The Fire’s senior leaders, Murray Smith and Ash Smith.

When confronted by the Smiths as to why he didn’t address the issue earlier, he claimed he was horrified “over his actions and the effects on his fellow passenger,” according to their statement.

“Catch The Fire Raleigh-Durham was shocked and saddened to learn (on Oct. 27) about Chalmers’ arrest in connection with the Oct. 12 incident,” read the Smiths’ statement.

Confirming the report, Catch The Fire Church announced Chalmers’ resignation in a statement posted on Facebook without naming him directly.

“We were saddened to hear of the news yesterday involving one of our non-pastor employees in a disorderly conduct incident earlier this month,” the church posted on Facebook. “We take these matters very seriously. This behavior is not a reflection of Catch The Fire, our leadership, and its members.”

Before his resignation he was in charge of communications projects and some teaching jobs at the church.

The Pastor and his wife (pictured below), Shara Lea Chalmers, also lead ‘Love Wins Ministries’ in Raleigh, which reportedly “has no official connection” to Catch the Fire Raleigh-Durham.

Beverly’s attorney is also accusing Chalmers of touching the woman inappropriately, exposing himself to her and acting in a reckless manner.

The complaint accuses Chalmers of physically touching the woman’s body without consent.

“It is difficult to believe that a church would hire a pastor who boarded a plane drunk and has a proclivity to urinate on passengers,” Fieger said in a statement. “Considering the times we are living in, nothing surprises me anymore.”

The woman said she was emotionally and mentally distressed, humiliated, mortified, frightened and shocked by the alleged incident, according to the complaint.

The complaint claims Chalmers should face the following charges:

Negligence, gross negligence, wanton and willful misconduct

Sexual assault and battery

Infliction of emotional distress

Love Wins Ministries, Chalmers’ employer in North Carolina, is accused of negligent hiring, training supervision and/or intervention, as well as vicarious liability.

“(Love Wins Ministries) had the duty and capability to engage in proper screening of its employees before entrusting them to travel on their behalf,” the complaint reads.

Fieger claims Love Wins Ministries was negligent for hiring a pastor who “lacked the appropriate skills and/or knowledge to not urinate on others.”

He also accuses the employer of “failing to properly train (Chalmers) in how to appropriately interact when flying, ensuring that employees never resort to urinating on others.”
