A passenger who smoked a sneaky cigarette in a plane’s bathroom sparked a trash can fire during flight, airline says

  • He tried to get rid of the cigarette in a trash can however it set tissue paper aflame, inflicting a fire.
  • The passenger will face authorized motion when he returns from Thailand to Israel, El Al stated.

An Israeli passenger induced a fire on an El Al flight from Tel Aviv to Bangkok on Friday after smoking a cigarette in the plane’s bathroom and making an attempt to get rid of it in a trash can, in line with the airline, per the Times of Israel.

The passenger’s cigarette butt set bathroom paper and tissues contained in the trash can aflame, The Times of Israel reported.

Flight attendants and the plane’s captains used extinguishers to place the fire out, El Al stated, per the newspaper. It induced no harm, the airline added.

“The flight continued as scheduled and landed safely at Bangkok Airport,” El Al stated, per The Times of Israel.

El Al added that the passenger would face authorized motion as soon as he returned from Thailand to Israel, in line with the newspaper.

The newspaper reported that the airline didn’t contain Thai native police in the matter because the fire was put out shortly and didn’t trigger any harm to the airplane.

Inflight smoking is prohibited by virtually all airways and most governments internationally. 

Last month, the Times of Israel reported that a passenger on a delayed Wizz Air flight from Tel Aviv to Bucharest, Romania, declared that he needed to smoke a cigarette.

The pilot known as for the police, who approached the passenger, the newspaper stated. “I want to smoke a cigarette,” the passenger stated, per The Times of Israel. “I’ve been here for four hours, I’m going to smoke a cigarette! I smoke weed! I’m sick, I’m allowed to smoke weed, I have a permit.”

Police didn’t detain or take away anybody from the airplane, the newspaper reported.
