The Cross River Police Command who confirmed the event recognized the deceased officer as Sgt. Peter Ikwen,
SP Irene Ugbo, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, stated assailants took the officer’s rifle.
“I have just gathered that a police sergeant was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the early hours of today (Saturday) and his rifle was taken away by the assailants,” she stated.
She informed NAN that investigation has begun with a view to unravelling these behind the act which, she described, as condemnable.
