Four gamers registering 69, three under par on the opening day of the Professional Golf Development (PGD) Tour sponsored by Meristem Securities have set the tone for a weekend of hostilities on the Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate in Lagos.
Ikoyi Club 1938âs duo of Sunday Olapade and Francis Epe kept the charge from the house entrance whereas Kouame Richard from Ivory Coast and Vincent Torgah from Ghana joined in sharing the highlight of the opening day with N10million purse at stake.
Femi Olagbenro, Golf Manager on the host membership said the efficiency of the gamers on the opening day underscores the search for normal enjoying time by the professionals.
âThe scores today are encouraging and fully speak on the need for active playing time by the professionals. The PGD Tour will complement whatever other stakeholders have on the plate for professional golf development and I am confident the scores will even get better,â he noted with pleasure.
Eighty-seven skilled golfers teed off on the Meristem Open, the inaugural occasion of the Professional Golfers Development Tour, which Meristemâs Head of Brand and Corporate Communication, Adefemi Taiwo said she hopes would be the starting of a brand new period in skilled golf improvement in Nigeria and throughoutÂ
the continent.
In the fifth place, two pictures off the 4 first-round leaders is Friday Akpodiette, whereas Gift Willy, Enoch Owusu, Mohammed Kabir Haruna, Francis Christopher, and Abubakar Mustapha are tied in the sixth place on degree par rating on the Lakowe Golf Course.
Other high gamers lurking near the leaders forward of the second-round play embody former Nigeria primary participant, Nojeem Sofela, Liman Mohammed, Chukwudi Okoro, and Paul Patrick who all shot 73, one over par.
Kamalu Bako, Nigeriaâs present number-one ranked skilled golfer, is 5 pictures adrift of the joint-leaders.
The Meristem Open has a prize purse of N10million and can be determined over three-day play on the Championship course of Lakowe Lakes Golf Club in Lagos working from Thursday, January twenty sixth to twenty eighth, 2023.
