The Court of Appeal in Abuja nullified the election of Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State On Sunday.
The unanimous decision by a three-member panel of Justices stated that Mutfwang was not validly nominated and sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the gubernatorial contest held on March 18.
The court concluded that all votes credited to him and the PDP after the election were considered wasted.
As a result, the appellate court panel, led by Justice Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to revoke the Certificate of Return previously issued to Mutfwang of the PDP as the winner of the governorship poll.
The court further instructed that the candidate with the second-highest lawful votes in the election should be sworn in as the governor of the state.
