Worried by low immunisation and vaccination against the killer diseases in the state, the Zamfara State primary health care board has planned the integration of the malaria tests with the immunisation and vaccination exercise.

The programme manager, routine immunization in the state, Mustapha Aliyu, who disclosed this yesterday, said the new method was aimed at improving the immunisation and vaccination of children.

He said in addition, market day immunisation and vaccination had also been introduced in the state.

“In order to improve immunisation coverage, we introduced market day immunisation where we gather children and give them immunization,” he said.

Aliyu said an immunisation temporary task force has also been constituted for effective coverage.

He lamented that the security challenge in the state had hampered successful campaign on immunisation and vaccination as a good number of health facilities were not functioning properly.

According to him, the state government is doing everything possible to engage traditional and religious leaders for effective mobilisation of parents to support the campaign against killer diseases.
