Abuja To Experience Six-Hour Blackout On Saturday

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that certain areas in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), will undergo a six-hour total blackout on Saturday, February 10th, 2024.

TCN, through its spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, stated on Friday that the blackout is necessary for the commission’s maintenance crew to conduct scheduled annual preventive maintenance on its 132kV line 1 at both Gwagwalada and Apo Transmission Substations.

Mbah explained that the maintenance will affect the 132/33kV Kukwaba Transmission Substation for six hours on Saturday, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Areas to be affected include parts of Lokogoma, Kabusa Garden, TradeMore, Pyakasa, Aherita, Chika, Games Village, Stadium, Wuye, Utako, Life Camp, and Idu.

Apologizing in advance to residents of the affected areas, the TCN spokesperson assured that power supply would be restored promptly upon completion of the maintenance work.

The statement emphasized the scheduled annual preventive maintenance on the TCN Gwagwalada-Kukwaba-Apo 132KV Transmission Line 1 in the Abuja axis, following an attack by suspected vandals in December. The vandalism occurred at night, leading to a cut-off in bulk power supply on the line and prompting an early morning investigation by TCN linesmen, who discovered a vandalized portion of the line route between Tower 23 and Tower 25.
