Super Eagles drop in latest FIFA ranking despite victory over Ghana

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped two places in the latest FIFA rankings which were released recently by the football body.

The West African gaints now occupy the 30th position, down from their previous ranking of 28th which was released in February. Nigeria defeated Ghana 2-1 in Finidi George’s first game as interim manager before losing 2-0 to the Eagles of Mali a few days later. 

Despite the drop, Nigeria remains third on the African continent, behind Morocco (13th) and Senegal (17th). Egypt (37th), Cote d’Ivoire (38th), and Tunisia (41st) make up the rest of the top six teams in Africa. The latest ranking was released on Thursday, April 4, 2024, following the results of the last international break.

Argentina remains the top-ranked team in the world, with France, Belgium, England, and Brazil rounding out the top five. Portugal, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Croatia complete the top ten teams in the world.
